I developed the branding for a new, full service restaurant (FSR) in the hip, up-and-coming Main Street area of Patchogue on Long Island, NY. The goal was to establish That Meetball Place as a first choice destination for dining and entertainment, with long-term relevance in a community that was becoming saturated with trendy, flavor-of-the-month restaurants and bars. To bring That Meetball Place (TMP) to life, I created a strong brand story and identity system. The tagline “A Place to Meet and Have a Ball” helps explain the intentional misspelling of meatball, and anchors the restaurant as a unique dining and entertainment experience. By creating a brand voice with a conversational, playful “tongue-in-cheek” tone, I was able to invoke feelings of friendship and an attitude that allows familiarity with the brand. Added to that is a strong design system with bold typography, custom iconography, and amusing graphics that bridge the gap between the old world charm of Nonna’s Sunday family dinners and a contemporary meeting place whose clientele value the quality dining and entertainment experience.
Client’s are reminded that they are part of the “Meetball” family and encouraged to return through consistent engagement with the brand at multiple touch points including social media, promotional posters, flyers, postcards and merchandise, digital and traditional advertising, email marketing, experiential events in-store and in the community. Since its inception in 2014, That Meetball Place has had continuous success in Patchogue, winning numerous industry and regional awards, and securing itself as a business leader in the community.
